Memorial Day weekend mani/pedi courtesy of Canyon Coral by Essie. LOVE.
drinks + flirting + game of thrones = I can’t stop laughing!
kickball thursdays don’t get much better than this.
I was walking down Spring Street earlier, heading west toward the C train, when I recognized a bench where I’d sat two years ago and talked to my friend for a couple warm summer hours while the traffic rolled by. Down the block was the restaurant where I’d taken my sister and her friend last spring when they wanted to go to Dash. And right nearby was the street corner where I’d looked up this past winter and seen an apartment I’d never gotten the chance to visit.
The more I paid attention, the more evident it was that every block had a landmark or a memory. By the time I hit the seafood restaurant on the corner of 6th, it was like standing in my family room. Not because anyone anywhere in SoHo gave a fuck that I was there — but because somewhere along the way I became someone who lives in New York, not someone who has spent a lot of time here.
Right at the stairs. Towels in the door after the bathroom.
It’s weird, this island. How a place that’s so full, that needs you so little, can start to feel like it’s yours.
And not in an ownership way. None of us own it.
But there’s a weird symbiosis there that not everyone picks up on. You’re the bird on the back of the grazing animal. You’re eating shit and fleas, but you’re alive and you’re moving and these are the vistas.
I’ve only been here for a year and change, but this is where I’ve always been meant to be. I completely agree with this.
I have a problem.
I already have a (corporate discounted) membership to NYSC. I go 2-3x per week to various classes.
I recently bought a LivingSocial deal for five bootcamp classes that I still need to use.
And I just bought this deal because clearly I am ridiculous. When in fact I’m just OBSESSED: a year and change ago when I lived in San Diego and went to my super cheap 24 Hour Fitness, I discovered Les Mills classes. (Specifically BodyPump.) When I moved to NYC and realized I couldn’t afford the SuperJacked24HourFitness club costs, I went into withdrawals. A few weeks ago, a friend dragged me to a Les Mills launch at this Gold’s where we did two hours of classes for free. It was so amazing…and now this! One month for $19! A few blocks from my office! ALL LES MILLS ALL THE TIME!
If you want me, I’ll be the tiny human gym rat working out all over the city. Lol.
Sunday evening was for sharing a delicious cookie from here. A two hour hang out session on the Great Lawn at sunset. With one of my closest girlfriends.
Now it’s pouring and I’m okay with that, because Mondays should never be better than Sundays!
Impromptu quick, easy & delicious lazy Sunday lunch: spaghetti with curried mixed vegetables, cream cheese & parmesan.
• Work happy hour
• $1 pizza slices for dinner
• Kickball pre-party (aka FLIP CUP)
• 10pm kickball game (seriously…who schedules that?!)
• Kickball after-party (aka DANCING ALL NIGHT)
All of the above are also the reasons I scheduled a WFH day tomorrow, lol.
